Concepts

The app uses a small set of words on its screens and in these docs. This page says what each one means and links to the page where you use it.

Entry. One thing you copied: text, a link, an image, a file or folder, or rich HTML. Each copy becomes one entry in your history.

History. Your entries, newest first. It has no entry limit, and by default it stays when the app or your PC restarts. See Clipboard history.

Pinned. An entry you pinned stays at hand on the Pinned tab of the paste popup, with its own number. You can pin up to 10 entries. Pinned entries are never dropped from history, survive restarts, and are kept by Clear history.

Saved. Also a way to keep an entry, but without the 10-entry limit and without a place in the paste popup. Saving puts the entry in the built-in Saved group. Saved entries are kept exactly like pinned ones. Use pins for the few things you paste all the time, and Saved for everything else worth keeping.

Group. A label you put on entries and notes, with a color, to filter them later. One entry can be in several groups. Groups are shared between clipboard entries and notes.

Note. A document you write in the app, next to your history. Notes are always kept, and can hold clipboard entries inside them. See Notes.

Paste popup and capture popup. The two small windows that open at your cursor from any app: Ctrl+Shift+V to paste an entry by number, and Ctrl+Shift+C to capture the selection and see what was grabbed. The numbers in the paste popup are called slots. See Quick paste and capture.

Account. Optional. You only need one for sync and spaces. Its password does two jobs: it signs you in, and it decrypts your synced data. See Cloud sync.

Device. Each computer where you sign in to your account. Devices are listed on the Account & Sync screen, where you can see which are online and revoke one you no longer use.

Sync mode. How this device exchanges items with your other devices: Realtime, Passive or Manual. Each device has its own. See Sync modes.

Recovery code. A code the app shows once when you set up your account (also called a backup code). With it, you can reset a forgotten password on a new computer and keep your synced data. It is stored nowhere, so keep it safe. See How to reset a forgotten password.

Master key. The key that decrypts everything you sync. It is created on your computer and never leaves it unencrypted. You never see or type it: your password, a computer you have signed in on before, or your recovery code decrypts it. See the security model.

Space. A shared feed that any number of people can join (sometimes called a shared clipboard or a team clipboard). Items shared into it reach every member in seconds. You can be in several spaces, and one item can be in several spaces. See Spaces and sharing.

Owner and member. The person who created a space is its owner. Everyone else is a member. Only the owner can invite by email, remove members, or delete the space.

Invite code, and request to join. Each space has an 8-character code, which also comes as a link. Someone who uses it sends a request to join, which the owner, or any member if the owner allows it, has to approve. An email invite from the owner skips the request.

Space key. Each space has its own key, which is what lets members read its items. The app hands it to new members for you. When a member is removed, the space gets a new key.

Mine and From others. Filters in your history. Mine is what you copied yourself, on any of your devices; From others is what other people shared into your spaces.
