With cloud sync on, these follow your account to every device: theme, layout, sort order, Number-key paste slots, groups and their colors, Close to system tray, Start minimized, In-app popup with its Copy operations and Paste operations choices, and your space send filters. Everything else on this page stays on the device you set it on, including Keep history across restarts, Auto-save copied entries and Desktop notifications.

When you sign in, this PC first takes your account’s values for the settings above. After that it sends only the settings you change on this PC, so signing in on a new PC does not replace the settings your other devices use. Two cases do not travel:

  • An empty group list. Deleting your last group removes it on this PC only.
  • A layout or sort order this version of the app does not know. This PC keeps its own choice.
  • Close to system tray: off by default. When on, closing the window minimizes the app to the tray instead of quitting.
  • Run on startup: off by default. Launches the app when you sign in to your computer, on Windows and Linux.
  • Start minimized: off by default. Starts the app hidden in the tray.
  • Show splash screen on startup: on by default. Shows a small notice by the tray at launch while the app checks for updates. It is also where automatic installs happen; see Updates.
  • Show sync badges on cards: on by default. The cloud icon that marks whether an entry has reached the server. Turning it off changes nothing about what syncs.

Both are on by default, because each action reaches beyond the device you are on.

  • Confirm before deleting synced items: asks first when you delete an item that has a cloud copy, since the delete also removes it from your other devices.
  • Confirm before removing from a space: asks first when you take an item out of a space, since it leaves the space for everyone in it.
  • Confirm before removing everything from the cloud: asks first when Remove from cloud on the Account screen takes all your items off the server and your other devices.

Each confirmation dialog has its own Don’t ask again, so you can silence one without the other.

  • Desktop notifications: on by default. System notifications while the app is in the background.
  • In-app popup: on by default. The small toast at the bottom right, with separate checkboxes for Copy operations and Paste operations.
  • Test sounds: play each cue once: Arrived (a shared item came in), Invite (a join request), Space ready (a space opened up for you), and Refused (an action was turned down).
  • Sounds: on by default. Turns every cue on or off. Under it, Copying and Pasting add a sound for each copy and paste; both ship off because they fire constantly.

Sounds are generated by the app; no audio files are involved.

  • Number-key paste slots: how many entries the quick-paste popup numbers for one-key paste, from 3 to 10. Default 3.
  • Keep history across restarts: on by default. Applies to this PC only. When on, your whole history stays when the app or the PC restarts. When off, only pinned and Saved entries, and anything in the cloud or a space, stay; everything else is cleared when the app restarts.
  • Click a card to view it: off by default. When off, a click copies the entry and a double click opens it. When on, a click opens it and a double click copies.
  • Auto-save copied entries: on by default. Applies to this PC only. Adds every new capture to the Saved group. Clear history keeps Saved entries, so while this is on, Clear history removes only entries captured while it was off.
  • Keep paste popup open after copying: on by default. Copying an entry from the paste popup leaves the popup open. Pasting still closes it.

Older versions had Keep history across restarts and Auto-save copied entries off by default, and synced both between your devices. After you update, a PC that already has a value for either one keeps it, and a PC that never had one gets the new default, on. On each PC where you want your history kept, check that Keep history across restarts is on.

  • Open data folder: the Open button shows the folder holding your history, pinned entries, notes and settings.
  • App version: your current version, with Check now, then Download, then Restart & install, and the release notes inline.
  • Check for updates automatically: on by default. Turning it off also turns off automatic installs.
  • Install updates automatically: off by default.
  • Get beta versions: off by default.

How checks, installs and the beta channel behave is on the Updates page.

  • Theme: the light/dark button at the bottom of the sidebar. The app follows your system’s light or dark setting until you pick one yourself; after that, your choice wins and syncs with your account.
  • Sign-in, sync mode, devices, storage and the recovery code: the Account screen. See Cloud sync.
