Orange Copy Paste is open source under the AGPLv3. This section is for people who want to read how it works, run their own sync backend, or contribute code.

The product is two halves that share one contract:

  • The desktop app captures the clipboard, stores history and notes locally, holds every key, and does all encryption and decryption. It works fully offline; the cloud is optional.
  • The backend is a stateless relay and store. It verifies Supabase-issued tokens, persists ciphertext it cannot read, fans changes out over WebSocket, and brokers blob storage.
Repo What it holds
App The desktop app and the workspace: React 19 + TypeScript + Vite on Tauri 2 / Rust. Its GitHub Releases hold the downloads.
Backend The cloud-sync API: Python 3.14 + FastAPI, Supabase Postgres, Redis, S3/R2.
Website This site: Astro + Starlight.
  • Architecture - how the two halves fit together.
  • Security model - the end-to-end encryption, for a technical reader.
  • Self-hosting - run your own backend.
  • Contributing - setup, checks, and how to open a change.
  • Reference - the full specifications (mirrored from each repo) plus the design records for the harder parts.

The full specifications live in each repo, next to the code they describe. The Reference pages mirror them here so you can read everything on one site, and each mirror links back to its home in the source repo, which stays the one place it is edited.
